W2MO Machine learning can check if you’re social distancing properly at work during Corona-times

  • Monitoring the minimum distance – e. g. six feet - between people in a production site or in a warehouse
  • If the minimum distance is violated, a real time notification will happen, e.g., siren, headlights, flashlight controlled via IP switch actuators, as well as mail notifications or smartphone warning tones (only if privacy protection is not used)
  • If desired: documentation for health authorities can be provided
  • Option to include or exclude privacy protection (according to GDPR)

W2MO tracks the movements of people and other objects and can calculate the distances between them. As soon as people get too close and violate the minimum social distancing, a warning can be issued: optically, with lamps / headlights, or acoustically. If desired, employees wearing / not wearing a mask can also be identified. This makes it easy to monitor that only employees with a mask are working in certain areas.

Privacy protection can be handled differently depending on the customer's wishes. If the protection of privacy is of great importance, people are automatically blurred on the detection unit. In this case, the system only warns that two people have come too close.

To enable traceability in Corona times, individual people can also be explicitly identified and tracked. If there is too close contact, the system can document who has been in contact with whom and for how long, thus effectively supporting the follow-up of health authorities.

Detection takes place directly on the detection units (cameras with ML-stick) - no streaming of huge videos required.

The customer can install the detection units by themselves - the software can be provided remotely by Logivations. A virtual project without physical contact is easily possible.

In addition to tracking the forklifts, goods movements can also be tracked and automatically posted to the WMS. The storage and retrieval of pallets can be recognized with the help of detection units. The current position of the forklift is known from the recognition functions.

This means that all bookings can be made automatically when moving goods. Storage and retrieval can also be documented in order to have seamless traceability, which means documentation of all goods movements is saved in case of investigations.

No modifications to the forklifts are required for the automatic booking of goods movements. No matter which manufacturer and which year of manufacture - the system can always be trained so that goods movements are recognized.

AI-based tracking and navigation

  • A combination of computer vision and machine learning technology together with a 3D layout model in the digital twin enables precise tracking and navigation with accuracy better than 1 mm. The accuracy of the localization with the help of interpolation is better than 1 pixel of the camera resolution. With 4K resolution of the camera, the localization can be more precise than 1 mm on an area of 8㎡. Even with approximately 100㎡ you can still achieve accuracy better than 4 mm with a 4K camera.

By using permanently installed cameras with machine learning sticks on board, as well as localization in the W2MO digital twin, a detailed overview of all areas in the warehouse can be provided. Movements of AGVs, forklifts, pick carts, and all other relevant objects can be identified by Logivations AI technology, and the information about their exact locations can be transferred to W2MO in real time.

Logivations uses Machine Learning technologies and markers which are attached to the transporters for identification. Therefore, no expensive and complex navigation technologies (e.g. lasers) are required anymore. As a result, additional transporters can be added very easily.

By using heatmaps, an overview of driving speeds, driving/idle times, stops, and routes can be provided.

This transparency is a great tool for identifying further optimization potential.

Forklift navigation

The system contains a complete model of the existing warehouse structure including racks, bins, and routes. Internal orders can be calculated automatically or can be imported from the warehouse management system. Integrated and adjustable optimization algorithms calculate the best possible route from the start to the final destination for each transporter in order to use resources most efficiently. The system provides the latest information about the workload in different areas at any time. Since the system knows the total number of all current and future transports, the current and expected traffic situation can be considered when calculating the fastest route to the destination. Due to permanent localization in real-time and the 3D layout in the digital twin, information about the expected traffic/speed limits at junctions can be provided in advance, even in difficult complex situations.

Picking and replenishment times are calculated in the W2MO model and used in the digital twin. The times are not calculated with average times, they are calculated based on the exact position of the bin within the rack. This determines the expected workload for each pick. The expected tour time for a transporter can be determined based on its speed and the distance to be covered. Multi-level transport chains such as those used for putaway and retrieval in warehouses with narrow aisles are taken into account; whether it is using transfer points, using storage on buffer areas at the inbound area, or some other method. Thus, expected and actually needed working hours can be compared constantly. Therefore, an overview of the current efficiency can be provided at any time. Moreover, load forecasting can be used to react in time to possible bottlenecks that may occur across all transport stages (see also Workforce planning). Changes to a layout or processes, such as adjustments of the workforce or transport resources, can be simulated in advance.

The W2MO transport control system is a comprehensive add-on to other IT systems due to its configurable algorithms, meaningful evaluations, and various visualization options. The underlying modern web technologies enable easy and quick access via the cloud or via installation in the company intranet. Data exchange with other IT-systems takes place via a database interface and web requests. As an SAP Application Development Partner, Logivations also has a standardized interface to SAP EWM. Tablets are used to display the relevant information for a forklift driver or a picker. This provides flexibility and vendor independence in hardware selection. The installed camera infrastructure can be easily extended to control the Logivations AGV.
